Mobile Device Restrictions in Classrooms

In the past year, HWDSB updated our Code of Conduct policy and procedure to emphasize that all members of the school community must respect the need of others to work in an environment that is conducive to learning and teaching. This includes the use of cellphones and other personal mobile devices only being used during instructional time for educational purposes (as directed by an educator), for health and medical purposes, and/or to support special education needs.

At HWDSB, we feel strongly about the educational value that accessing the digital world brings. However, this is balanced with our firm belief that our educators guide the learning using their professional judgement.

Today, the Ministry of Education has updated its Provincial Code of Conduct to address the use of cellphones and other personal mobile devices during instructional time.

If you have any questions, please speak to your child’s teacher and/or principal.
